Polish Foreign Minister meets US Deputy Secretary of State
“The NATO summit in Warsaw will be a key moment for ensuring security of the transatlantic area,” Minister Witold Waszczykowski said at a meeting with US Deputy Secretary of State Antony Blinken.
The meeting on Thursday covered the challenges and threats facing NATO countries in a tense international situation, in particular caused by the war in Syria and the resulting mass migration. Also on the agenda were steps the Alliance should take to strengthen NATO’s eastern flank, and expand the presence of allied troops in Central and Eastern Europe.
“The summit will reaffirm the American side’s commitment to genuinely reinforce the Alliance in this region,” said Antony Blinken, pointing to the presence of US troops and more funds allocated to the European Reassurance Initiative. Developments in Ukraine were another topic of the talks.
Moreover, Minister Witold Waszczykowski and Antony Blinken discussed the migrant crisis and ways of resolving it.
